An evening at the Souk Mubarakiya

Last weekend we spent several hours at the Souk Mubarakiya with some friends.

We've grown to really like it out there, as it feels like a 'true" Middle Eastern experience =). It's basically one giant outdoor-but-covered market. Several vendors of produce, fish, dates and figs, toys, fabrics, carvings and clothes.
You can spend hours there and still feel like you didn't see it all.

Large canopies drape over many of the playground areas, so even though it was about 106 degrees, we had shade...

The twins quickly set to work conquering this playground while we waited for our friends to arrive...

...and continued to conquer as a group when our friends did arrive...

These kids have the BEST time together, and it's just the biggest blessing to me! Both families are from South Africa, and have been here in Kuwait for a few years,  homeschooling their children.

Their Mommas are a huge blessing to me as well...

The three of us have gotten together a bunch for playdates (one of them lives right down the street - we can just walk to each other's apartments!) and everyone gets along so well, we decided to do a big family outing so our husbands could meet.

Also, since they've been here in Kuwait longer than we have, they could show us where the best places were to eat in the Souk =)
They took us to the fish market area...

These boys have such a great connection...

Dave chatting it up, discussing everything from politics to finance to parenting in different cultures...

Delicious fresh veggies and khobz (bread) while we waited for our fish...

This crazy girl sucking on a lemon...

After dinner we walked around the markets some more, and came across a live music production that was being televised...

Pretty cool.

The kids talked the Dads into buying ice cream from a vendor...

As the sun was setting, we made our way to the fountains to let the kids run feral play in the water...

L and his buddy Y making super hero poses.
Two peas in a pod I tell ya.

...ninja chopping the fountain...

I call this one "Daddy In Waiting"
=)

These two sweet girls had so much fun running around and splashing each other...

They played until their skin was pruny, we changed them into dry clothes, said our goodbyes, and hailed a taxi home.

  1. We're having a record-setting hot weekend, but probably nothing special in Kuwait. Fun post and photos. So great that your family is connecting with friends from all over the world. Priceless relationships, contributing to world peace... and fun!
