Sri Lanka (Post 8 - the FINAL POST =) )

We'd set alarms for 6:00am this morning, so we could enjoy breakfast at the hotel before packing up and heading out to catch our 7:30am train.

I mean, who wouldn't love to eat at this beautiful outdoor restaurant next to the ocean??

One last picture of our cuties on Unawatuna beach...

And one last family selfie...

We finished packing up, and then the kids and I hung out while David got us all checked out...

We said our goodbyes to the sweet staff we'd gotten to know over the last several days, and hopped in a cab to head to the train station.

To take the train from Galle to Columbo, it was 550 rupees.
 For all four of us.
That is the equivalent of about $4.00.
FOUR BUCKS.

Not only was in incredibly economical, but it was another adventure for our family as well =).

Boarding the train...

LOVE my people so much!

The train was far from fancy. But what do you expect for a $1 fare?!?!
Besides, we didn't need fancy.

At first I was worried it might be really hot on the train, as they didn't have these fans going...

...but we soon learned the windows open allowed a lovely breeze to flow in.

When we boarded, we didn't know how crowded it would be, so we all four sat together...

But soon after we got going, we spread out a bit.
The boys moved over to the other side...

...and took in the beautiful views...

A lot of our trip consisted of railing right along the ocean...

Sister seemed perfectly content to gaze at the neighborhoods and jungles we passed...

Eventually, Brother nodded off a bit...

And David stood at the open door and took in the sights...

After a few hours, and a few stops in small towns, we started noticing more industrial areas, and knew we must be nearing Columbo...

We exited the train at the Columbo station...

....made our way outside, and hailed a cab for the short ride to the airport.

Turns out we were super early for our flight (insert a Happy Dance preformed by David here) and had to wait a bit for the Oman Air counter to even open so that we could check in and get lunch inside the airport.

L and A trying to be patient as we waited to check in...

...we hung around the airport a bit...

...and finally boarded our plane!

Me, attempting to read, but also responding to "look Momma!" at all the fun things on the kids' Kindles...such is Motherhood...=)

Brother has put his tongue out while concentrating since he was an infant...

After four+ hours in the air, we landed in Oman, had a short layover, and boarded our final flight back to Kuwait...

By the time our flight landed in Kuwait, our little family was kicked.
It had been a long day of travel that started early, and our kids had been troopers.
However, at this point - waiting to exit the plane after it had landed - Brother was done. Like, DONE, done.

He'd been standing, waiting to exit one minute, and the next time I looked down on him, he was using my carry-on as a pillow and had nodded off.
Bless his heart.
He burst into exhausted tears when I nudged him awake as we were disembarking. I totally understood! So as soon as we were off the plane, I scooped him up and carried him to baggage claim and through the airport, and into a taxi.
Vacation officially over!
So many fantastic memories made, and so grateful for health and safety throughout the trip.
